Light The Night

Thank you for participating in Halloween Light the Night grocery collection.  

As we have done for 8 years in the past, we will collect thousand pounds of goods for those in need. This year to half of the goods will go to people in Western North Carolina and the rest will go to Christmas Day event in Charleston, South Carolina.

As part of you signing up, it is expected that you have a neighborhood in mind that you will visit on Halloween night. We will give you bags for your neighborhood with flyers on them explaining to people that if they fill them with non-perishable items and leave them on the doorstep on Halloween night, we will collect them while we are visiting the neighborhood that night. Some people will trick-or-treat while collecting as well, and some will just collect the canned goods off of the porches.

Paper bag and flyer pickup for the neighborhoods will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26th at the DSS grocery distribution center at 3366 Rivers avenue near the CARTA bus Super Stop on Cosgrove Ave. 

It is very important to go through the neighborhood before Helloween, preferably on that Saturday the 26th, and drop the paper bag bags with flyers attached to them on the porches and front steps of the area that you are going to visit on Halloween night.  There is no need to knock on anybody's doors.  We will simply be dropping the bags on the porches and front steps.

When you are done picking up your items from your neighborhood on Halloween, please bring them to 3366 Rivers avenue and place them in the cube van that is there.
